The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) is the leading International Professional body for all sectors of the Transport and Logistics Industry. Founded in the United Kingdom in 1919 and granted a Royal Charter on the 26th of November, 1926, the CILT was actually established to promote knowledge of the science and art of Logistics and Transport and to provide a source of authoritative views for communication to government, industry and the community at large.

In recognition of the ever growing importance of its status and activities, the CILT revised its governance structure in 1990; one of the resulting benefits is greater autonomy and recognition of larger local membership. Further more, there are now Councils in Australia, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, North America, Pakistan, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Seychelles, South Africa, Egypt, Uganda, Nigeria, etc. All administrative matters in these areas are handled locally, enabling a faster and more efficient service delivery to members and the industry.
